NAFLD is…
-
Overall Summary:
- NAFLD is defined by the presence of steatosis (fat accumulation) >5% of the hepatocytes and exclusion of both secondary causes and of daily consumption of alcohol
- The accumulation of fat within the liver resents imbalance between the amount of FAs entering the liver (input), fatty acid (synthesis) within the liver and FAs disposal from the liver (output)
- Weight loss remains the most effective intervention to reduce liver fat
- Dietary manipulations seem to be able to change the content of liver fat also during weight stability - it seems to be important to take the context of the food into conservation (macronutrient composition)
