Obstructionist Approach
Behaves against the law
Example: Volkswagen vehicle manipulation to pass testing performed by the EPA
Does not behave socially responsible in any form
Company receives severe implications such as High Labour Turnover, Etc.
Defensive Approach
Example; Carlsberg Breweries poor product labelling
Makes a minimal attempt at CSR to avoid legal costs
Level of social responsibility that enables a company just to stay on the right side of the law
Proactive Approach
Highest ranked approach in terms of social responsibility
Goes to extreme efforts to cater for Social Responsibility
Example: Patagonia company being fully dedicated to supporting climate change
Brings a vastitude of advantages such as Positive brand image, etc.
One negative aspect is the increased costs associated with addressing social responsibility
Accommodative Approach
Example: Google who aims to achieve a net-emissions target by 2030, but they still focus on creating a positive workplace for employees
Refers to a company that does behave legally and ethically, but still believes shareholder needs are important
The company receives multiple benefits for their approach; E,G, Customer Loyalty
