How do cells keep us healthy?
Cell membranes
Protiens
Glycoproteins
Needs insulin, uses atp, and allows glucose to enter the cell
Aquaporins
Channel that allows water to get through much easier
Channel protiens
They allow molecules to get in and out of the cell
structure
consists of lipids
hydrophobic tail and hydrophilic head
Diffusion
Active diffusion
Uses ATP to move things from a low concentration gradient to a high concentration
Passive diffusion
Simple diffusion
Doesn't use atp, and small noncharged molecules can get through into and out of the cell by only going through the membrane.
Facilitated diffusion
Doesn't use ATP, but it allows for cells to pass through the membrane using a channel protien and it goes with the concentration gradient.
Osmosis
Hypotonic solution
too much solute in a cell so water goes in and the cell swell until eventually it explodes
Hypertonic solution
When water moves out of the cell causing it to shrivel up.
Isotonic solution
when water moves in and out at the same rate in a cell
Concentration gradient
When one are of molecules are highly clustered in one area compared to another
