Sunflowers and Goldenrod are also one of the most common things you can find in Grasslands/Plains, but Goldenrods are toxic.I Goldenrods are adapted to full or partial sun and a wide range of soil conditions allowing them to out-compete many other natives. As a genus, goldenrod species span a wide range of conditions in nature with a Goldenrod persisting in nearly any natural habitat in Illinois.

Plains Bison and Black-footed ferrets are among one of the easiest animals to find in Grasslands/Plains. Plains Bison have in fact evolved, being able to survive some of the harshest weather conditions in Grasslands/Plains, during cold weather they can develop a wool-like coat to protect themselves from outrageous weather conditions and harsh wind. Black-footed ferrets have long, slender bodies with sharp claws. This helps them crawl in and out of burrows and tunnels where they live. Ferrets have adapted to hunt prairie dogs at night while the prairie dogs are sleeping.
