Ralph meets Piggy for the first time on the island after the disaster, and he stays his most trustworthy and devoted friend throughout Lord of the Flies.The brains behind many of Ralph's brilliant inventions and ideas, including using the conch to call meetings and constructing shelters for the group, are Piggy, an overweight, smart, and talkative child. Piggy supports Ralph's signal fires and aids in problem-solving on the island as a symbol of humanity's rational and scientific side. However, Piggy is physically weaker than the rest due to his asthma, weight, and bad eyesight, which leaves him open to ridicule and rejection.
