Digital Resources for Learning by Daniel Churchill by Michaela Kralova
The first chapter
problem of different approaches to education styles
Teacher-centered
traditional way of conveying information to students
not just walking libraries with information passed to them through instruction
Such goals cannot be achieved through traditional teaching and learning practices
learning-centered
tries to transmit knowledge and skills in an interactive way without making the teacher the central figure
The lecturer should be a guide here
Someone who assists and supports the pupil with the help of digital resources and technologies
Michaela's view
From elementary school, where I knew nothing, to high school, where I successfully disregarded any positive opinion about teachers, to university
I first deepened my views but then met teachers who demonstrated learning-centered teaching that I could finally appreciate
For every rule there is an exception, of course, but those exceptions are rare in my experience
teaching practice need to change away from the instructivist and teaching-centered towards learning-centered
We need to ensure that our graduates are competent lifelong learners, knowledge workers and creative innovators
The second chapter
how we can display information in the most effective and engaging way
The main method was interactive and visual display
can be displayed as interactive visual content that reveals new information gradually
Without overload and purely on the account of the user
What practical suggestions would you give to your teachers and departments?
Interactivity with different types of media is crucial
consumer without compacting the message too much
important information without boring the user
it works with new technology and its options
The key is to use the display correctly
many of my peers — individuals that were born around the turn of the millennium are familiar with interactive whiteboard
elementary school had them installed, used them once or twice
individuals lacking drive or creativity remain stuck in conservative strategies learned from their teachers and obsolete experience
The third chapter
all about concepts
disciple-specific act of thought
framework or a schema for theoretical thinking
representation of knowledge accumulated by humanity
not just as something that might exist independently in one’s own mind
formation of concept knowledge
Applications
generalizations
reflections
abstractions
formation of concept knowledge
serves as internal disciplinary tools for theoretical thinking
foundation of one’s theoretical thinking and his/her ability to intellectually operate within that discipline
solve problems
conduct a research in the way that scientists do
psychological tool
What could be transferred from the book to your study field?
my field of study already utilizes many of these practices
I can see how the majority of my lecturers implement these strategies
my field tries to convey information in the best way possible
elementary school
how children think and how they evolve over time, grow, and communicate their information to others.
Many of my peers did not question practices at the elementary school but at the follow-up educational institutions
Since the start of the second level of elementary school, in my experience, every teacher has automatically assumed that their students know how to learn by themselves and can work with these sets of practices, methods, and concepts
Learning does not stop after school
Everyone still studies during their new job or while changes occur or new technology is implemented
How do you think education will be different ten years from today?
I think VR is going to play a big role, and augmented reality is also on the rise
I believe that there is a field of education that is becoming increasingly popular
educational games
historical educational games from developer studio Charles Games from the Czech Republic that take you through the stories of people affected by World War II and other historical events
gamification
The education system is moving forward
Society tends to lean toward short, compacted audiovisual messages
Many young people know much more about the use of technology than their teachers and maybe even bosses
Almost everyone has instant access to any type of information
direction education is headed is learning-centered
Many videos on YouTube and other social media platforms are focused on the usage of digital tools
literacies that are convenient for evolving trends
skills that are not taught in school
It cannot be stagnant; with each new generation comes a new paradigm and new strategies and methods
