Scrooge
-
-
Scrooge was abandoned by his fiance because she thought that "another idol has displaced me , a golden one" when she says " a golden one " she is referring to scrooges affection with money and how she has been put to the side.
-
He is shown to be very miserly and stingy with his money, he does not like to share and certainly doesn't like to give to others.
-
This all changes when scrooge become a good person in the end, he seems to have become a better and nicer individual.
The ghost off all the Christmas' shows what happened to scrooge following his bad attitude and what is going to happen to him later on in life.
-
Scrooge goes through a very drastic change throughout the story as when the story starts he is being shown as an arrogant and stuck up person but then changes to a loving and caring personality.
"they better had to, and decrease the surplus population"
Mr birling
-
-
He is shaken by the investigation and is shocked by the way the Inspector is interrogating the family.
He only cares about himself , his family and his business. Which overall makes him seen like quite a selfish character.
He has patronising views about women and he shows that clothes make women look better. He also objectifies women which is very stereotypical of men of that era.
He is presented as a very capitalist man , his main concern is making money.
He is very possessive of his wife , Sybil Birling as he does not allow her to speak for herself although she is presented as Mr Birlings so called "social superior"
Mr Birling is mainly presented as a capitalist character as he has a fixed mindset, Mr birling goes onto long speeches before the inspectors arrival, stating that there is an unsinkable ship called the titanic, but when the inspector arrives he seems to have cooled down and speaks much less.
