This movie follows the relationship between Edith Hardy, a stockbroker's wife, and Haka Arakou, a Burmese ivory trader. It is recognized through Edith and Haka's relationship. Haka is evidently making physical advances towards her despite knowing she has a husband. On the other hand. Richard Hardy is depicted as a hard-working man who dedicates his time to support his wife; he is the quintessential, dutiful, American husband. After Edith's poor financial decisions, she accepts Arakau's help to which he weaponizes against her. Their conflict ultimately leads to his arrest once Richard gets involved out of suspicion.
