ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
MAJOR FUNCTİONS
-
METABOLISM
The adrenal glands, corticosteroid hormones and epinephrine
-
-
-
-
-
TESTES
testosterone
regulate sex drive (libido), bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength, and the production of red blood cells and sperm.
-
-
-
-
THYROID GLAND
-
thyroxine (T4)
responsible for your metabolism, mood, and body temperature,
PARATHYROİD
parathyroid
produce parathyroid hormone, which plays a key role in the regulation of calcium levels in the blood.
PİTUİTARY GLAND
adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH),
-
follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH),
-
-
-
feedback mechanism
Feedback Control of Hormone Secretion
The endocrine system is controlled by complex feedback mechanisms in which the secretion of a hormone is turned on (stimulated) or turned off (inhibited), depending on its concentration. Such feedback mechanisms help the body maintain homeostasis.
-
the thyroid gland is regulated by a negative feedback mechanism. The hormone secreted by the hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland to release thyroid stimulating hormone. In turn, the thyroid stimulating hormone triggers the thyroid gland to release its hormones.
-
antagonistic mechanism
Negative feedback occurs to reduce the change or output: the result of a reaction is reduced to bring the system back to a stable state.
