Background of the Play
Caesar's Civil War began in 49–45 BC, between the parties of Caesar and Pompey
Ended after the Battle of Munda, 17th March 45 BC, right before the beginning of the play
Act 1
The people celebrate Caesar's victory
Caesar is warned by a soothsayer
They tell him to 'Beware the Ides of March', which Caesar ignores
Two tribunes, Flavius and Marullus, express their disdain towards Caesar, reminding the people of how they used to love Pompey
Act 2
Brutus and the Conspirators plot to kill Caesar
Caesar's wife, Calphurnia, has a dream and begs Caesar not to go to the Senate, for fear of him being murdered, but he goes anyways.
Act 3
Caesar is assassinated by Brutus and the Conspirators
Anthony is spared, and at Caesar's funeral, turns the people of Rome against the Conspirators
Aftermath
Anthony forms a Triumvirate with Caesar's heir and a senator, declaring war on the Conspirators
A second war breaks out between the Conspirators and the new Triumvirate
