4 Key Characteristics of Kingdom of God, Preached by Jesus (Para: 1) (The Kingdom of God in Parables)
-
An example of this would be the parable of 'Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount', In this parable, Jesus was speaking to a crowd of people on the edge of a cliff.
-
One thing that this large group of people all had in common, was their interest in what Jesus had to say.
Jesus told the group a story about two men, one wise and one foolish, that we're building themselves houses.
The wise man built his house on a stone foundation, while the foolish man built his house on sand, both of the men thought that their houses were strong.
-
The wise man's house held strong, while the foolish man's house fell apart.
The moral of this story was that Jesus wanted the crowd to place their trust in God, and by doing so God would act like the foundation of their life.
Para: 3
The parable of the 'Good Samaritan' is about a Jewish man who was travelling from Jericho to Jerusalem.
This journey was very dangerous, and was known for having robbers hide and attack people on their travels.
-
-
The traveller waited & prayed for a way home, untill he heard the prayers of a priest walking past him, unexpectedly the priest crossed the road and ignored the injured traveller.
After the priest another temple assistant passed the injured traveller, without helping or paying any attention.
The traveller had given upon all hope and fell asleep, until he was woken up by a good Samaritan,
This was unexpected due to Samaritans typically not being liked by the Jewish, but despite all this the Samaritan gave the traveller a lift to the nearest town.
The Samaritan bandaged up the traveller, washed him and payed an inn keeper to take care of him.
This parable is told so we can realise that God isn't interested in our worship if it is not filled with love.
Para: 4
-
Jesus was an inspiring teacher, wherever he went, people followed.
His followers were moved by his message, and attracted by the promise he offered.
It became known that something powerful & amazing was always going to happen in the presence of Jesus.
In biblical times it was understood that illness was a form of punishment, and anyone sick had sinned, or showed signs of Gods displeasure.
-
All of these miracles performed by Jesus show us Jesus' vision of the 'Kingdom Of God', a place where the blind can see, the sick are healthy and those on the edge of society will be included.
-
Through Jesus, Gods will in made clear and the Covenant isn renewed.
