To clearly understand the overall structure of an article/ a lecture ,and its building blocks
To understand the original well , visually or aurally ,its structure ,and the functions of its components

To differentiate the important from the less important ,the primary from the secondary ,the general from the specific ,and the relevant from the irrelevant .Keep the former , when necessary
Take an essay as an example:The thesis statement>Arguments>Important evidence ( primaryexamples and /or reasons )Tips : all discourse markers as indicators
(1)Writing in English ,not copying the original(2)No "adding oil and vinegar"(3)No omitting key points(4)Simplifying (e.g. removing modifiers)
