Telemachus goes to cist the swineherd and he sends Eumaeus to his mother. Athena realizes everyone is gone and then takes off the mist on Odysseus. Telemachus at first believes that Odysseus is a God because of the sudden change in appearance from a beggar to a God-like physique, but then Odysseus quickly explains that he is truly Odysseus. Telemachus begins to cry and they reunite for the first time in twenty years. Odysseus then tells Telemachus that he must tell no one who he truly is and that he must follow the elaborate plan he and Athen created to kill the suitors. Telemachus agrees and Athena turns Odysseus back into his beggar-like shape. Soon the suitors hear that Telemachus returned safely and begin to scheme a new plan to kill him (but they do note that he must have been helped by the gods). Eumaeus returns at night and tells him that the suitors who planed to kill him have returned and are planning to kill him again in town.

Telemachus sees his father for the first time in twenty year and at first is weary but then accepts him. He agrees to keep his secrecy and says he will help with his father's plan to kill the suitors.

Athena (I believe feels relieved to see Telemachus finally meet with his father safely) is the one to reveal Odysseus by removing the mysterious mist that covers him. She then helps disguise him again in the end when she covers him in the mist again.

Odysseus finally reveals himself to Telemachus and tells him of his struggles returning home. He then asks to not tell anyone, even Penelope, that he is here in Ithaca. The book ends when he is turned back into a beggar.

Eumaeus is told to leave in the morning to inform Penelope of Telemachus' return and does so. Penelope is happy to hear that he was not murdered but he headed to return back to the fields where he warns Telemachus the the suitors have arrived back in Ithaca and plan on killing him again.

Should Telemachus tell Penelope about his return to see if she has any possible plans for ridding the suitors?

Why does Odysseus not reveal himself to Eumaeus because he is very loyal and would most likely help him in the fight against the suitors?
