REPORT (DESCRIPTIVE REPORT)
The type of text that presents information clearly and concisely
Purpose
To document, compile and record Factual information about a topic. Report classifies and describes a phenomenon in the world
The difference with the usual Descriptive
Report: tells a group as a whole
Descriptive: Very Specific
e.g:
Report about Bikes, Cats
Descriptive about my bike, my cat
Kind of Report Text
Weather reports, news, research reports, etc.
Organizational Structure
Opening general statements/General classification
Presenting facts about several aspects reported
(Physical characteristics, color, behavior, place of life, etc)
All aspects are sorted from important to least important.
Usually doesn't have an "Ending"
Insert diagrams, photos, illustrations to explain the text, complete with tables.
Liguistics Features
General objects (a specific group of objects, animals or people)
Use Action verb when describing behavior of animal and others.
Use Linking verb (is, are, belong to, has, have)
"Timeless" Present tense
Use language descriptive (Factual and Precise), not imaginative
Use a formal and objective writing style
Using language to define, classify, contrast and compare
e.g:
are called, belong to, are similar to, more powerful than, etc.
