Week 2: Knowing your strengths
So What? I learned some of my personal skills to be leadership and inclusion. Both theses skills have their pros and cons.
Now What? I can use the information learned about my skills and apply them however I see fit into my education and professional career.
What? Learning personal strengths, both positive and negative
Week 3: Resumes/Transferable Skills
So What? While writing my resume I found that a lot of the information on it is from high school. I realize that i should aim to add as much i can to it to remove those points.
Now what? Now that i have a started resume i can work to grow it through my education and career.
What? I wrote my first resume, giving me a great foundation to add to and grow.
Week 4: Handshake & LinkedIn
So what? By creating a LinkedIn profile I've completed the first step and can continue to grow my platform and connection.
Now What? I can use this LinkedIn profile to reach out and explore company's and grow my understanding of medical fields.
What? I learned about Handshake and LinkedIn and how important connections are in professional life and health careers.
Week 5: Networking & Experiential Learning
so what? By using campus resources like Under graduate research service learning and CO-OP's to my advantage I can gain a significant amount of experience and begin to
grow my professional profile.
Now What? I can begin to research these opportunities and decide what one fits me best in order to start gaining experience.
What? I learned the importance of networking and how important good relationships, connections and experience is.
Week 6: Understanding Patient Experience
So what? I learned a lot about the people/community in this lesson, learned that a lot of different health fields have people that care and also people that don't care and that some patients don't have the resources in order to supply themselves with appropriate care.
Now What? I'm going to apply this within my professional career by trying my best to understand patient perspectives and abiding by them.
What? Watching the escape fire documentary gave me the opportunity to see a lot of behind the scenes of medical care and other perspectives I've never thought about.
Week 7: Patient-Centered Care
So what? I learned that empathy is very important in healthcare. To understand the patient experience from a providers point is very essential to the patient feeling comfortable.
Now what? I plan on using this gained knowledge and applying it. I can use it in my professional life and day to day life.
What? This week was centered around patient care, and how important empathy is.
Week 8: Social & Cultural Underpinnings
So what? The way you were raised, religion, beliefs and many other factors can effect your personal bias and your decision making
Now what? By understanding that your decisions are swayed based on your personal bias can give me the opportunity to take a step back and look at a situation from a different perspective.
What? This week we focused a lot on personal bias and how our personal ethics affect our decision making.
Week 9: Society, Culture & Ethics (SCE)
So what? Society, Culture and ethics can all effect the way that decisions are made. We learned about Elizabeth Holmes and theranos and how she basically lied to the public about the validity of her technology.
Now what? I can apply this information into every aspect of my life. I can learn from Elizabeth Holmes mistake and how she thought more about the money than the actual product or the safety of the patient.
What? From the previous week about personal bias this week we continued on how culture and ethics can effect decisions.
Week 10: Ethics and Exploring Healthcare Careers
So what? Most careers in healthcare are obtained in a similar format but the career themselves are very different
What? This week we explored a ton of different health paths and careers in healthcare and what they do and how to get there.
Now what? I can take the information i learned from my own research and my classmates presentations to decide what path fits me the best.
