    - - Blue Beard was known to have one of the worst appearances ever which had made multiple girls and women run away at the sight of him. However, he had also come from wealth, which had played a role in convincing one of the noblewoman's daughters to marry his. After visiting his country estate, Blue Beard had convinced her to marry.
        
        Despite the number of woman who had disappeared before after spending time with Blue Beard, the girl still decided to marry him.
    - - Cinderella was also only able to marry the prince only after she had her wishes granted by the fairy godmother. She had shown the Prince she was from some sort of wealth; therefore, was worthy for the prince.

        One of the most common fairytales is known to be cinderella and how the fairy godmother helps to get her to the ball. She also becomes a princess at the end and this shows how wishful thinking is also commonly associated with happy endings.

        Bettelheim, The Uses of Enchantment
        
        Comparison between Ashkins and Bettelheim, both are versions of cinderella, there are key differences which reinforce Neil Gaiman's claim. Bettelheim show more signs of sibling rivalry and has a more sexual approach to the story which is not seen in Ashkins or contemporary versions of the fairytale.
- - - - This story showed that not all men are fit to make the best wishes for themselves. Not everyone can handle such a powerful gift and this was seen as the wife's nose was turned into a sausage.
    - - A common theme under this is being awarded for good deeds. This can be seen as the good and kind daughter helped the poor woman by giving water. In turn, the fairy grant her flowers and precious stones to come from her mouth. However, for the mean daughter, she is cursed with snakes and toads coming from her mouth. The kind daughter was mistreated by the mother form the beginning is rewarded at the end with a better life.

        Same theme of being awarded for good deeds can be seen by the lady that helps the wounded bird and gets rewarded with a pumpkin. However, the neighbor that hit the birds did not get a good wish; instead, there were snakes, spiders, and bad outcomes.
    - - These men were desperate to see people that were 300 miles away but they wishes to use this canoe to transport there thorough the air and bring them back safely. This could only be done by making a bargain and not drinking alcohol.
    - - When she fell asleep after pricking her finger, her parents were desperately waiting for her to wake up. The prince, after find out that the most beautiful princess laid in the chateau, was hoping she would awake as well.
- - - - This is a classic fairytale of where the physical attributes are not the true reflection of an individual. The good heart and good intentions of the Beast captured Beauty's attention and brought her back to him. Their relationship was based on virtue and they lived in happiness
    - - The daughter of the king faces a lot of hardships as she deals with the challenge of her father wanting to marry her. In order to avoid this, she gets help from a fairy that gives her a number of tasks. Finally, she uses donkey skin to disguise herself and used mud to dirty her face. She smelled and looked the complete opposite of the beautiful person she was.

        Differentiates between a freak and monster and the key point is that a freak is human and a monster is imaginary. "A freak show takes a person and makes it into a monster; I work to take a freak and make it into a human being."

        Consent was also important in Donkey Skin because the father did not force the daughter into marriage. Instead, used gifts as incentives and persuasion.

- - - - This fairytale starts with violence and ends with violence. It begins with the wolf preying on the beautiful granddaughter and she makes her way to the grandmother's house. By posing as the granddaughter, the wolf devours the grandmother. Then by posing as the grandmother in the house, the story ends by the wolf eating the granddaughter.
    - - Blue Beard is a key example for cycles of violence because he has a history of women going missing around him, which we found out were dying because they disobeyed him. However, there seems to be a concept of authority here as well where the women are punished if they don't follow the husband's rules.

        One of the main things we learned about in this lecture are the different parts of a story. For example, the climax of Blue Beard is when she opened the forbidden office and found the corpses of all the women that he had killed. She was shocked and almost died of freight, as said in the book.
