The duty of people who believe in God is to care for the weak, the weary, and the poor. God favors the sinners, not the saints. The saints don't need the help; the sinners do. Similarly, God's people should follow that same idea. They should be focusing on how they can care for and help the poor, because the poor are the ones in need. Many of the poor do not get to experience their human rights to freedom of want, freedom of fear, to education, to housing, and to be connected society. They are lacking human rights, and Catholics have the duty, as followers of God, to do all they can to help the people suffering from poverty.
This is very important to my life. While I am not a Catholic, I am a Christian. I feel that this same principle applies to me. It is so important that the churches and their people around the world help do the work to help those who are in need. The church has historically played a huge role in the culture of societies, and it should continue to use its influence in this area. This learning objective helps me to remember my responsibility as a Christian.
I chose this picture of the Pope talking to a poor woman. It perfectly encapsulates the idea of this learning objective, with the leader of the Catholic church leading by example.
