Tsunamis - Coggle Diagram
Tsunamis
Causes
-
Volcanic eruptions → tectonic waves → energy displaces water → gravity pulls it back down → ripples, tsunami
-
-
-
Protection
Sea walls, channels, flood gates, levee
Early detection (monitor seismic activity, pressure under water), share with rest of the world

Larger while they come closer to coastal areas (speed slows down, higher rises), gains traction and height
Can reach up to 10m in height, and in areas with intricate landscape (wedge-shaped bays, river valleys, etc) they can be over 50m high
A seismic event or displacement sends shock waves outward → initial waves travel very fast but are only a few feet tall → waves travel though shallower depths as they approach the coast, decreasing in speed while increasing in height → tsunami waves hit shorts with deadly force, depositing water and debris
