What are Regional variations in language?
They refer to the changes in the spoken way individuals speak such as grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary; this occurs due to the area or region they live in.
What is Accent?
The particular way of pronunciation speakers have. There are some that are very easy to recognize while there are some that are not. These different accents are the result of some factors:
Region or area speakers live in.
Social status speakers belong to.
What is Dialect?
It refers to the variations that occur through the same language according to the geographical regions speakers live in.
These variations can be in:
Grammar and vocabulary
Pronunciation
DIALECTOLOGY
It studies the different dialects that can exist in a specific language.
It capable to distinguish between two dialects of the same language.
Regional Dialect
It is a different way of spoken language in a particular geographical area.
There are sometimes stereotypes regard to the pronunciation of groups of individuals of any region.
ISOGLOSSES
It represents a boundary between the ares with regard to that one particular item
THE DIALECT CONTINUUM
Regional variaton exist along a dialect continuum rather than having a sharp breaks from one region to the next
BILINGUALISM
The ability to produce and understand two different langugaes with fluency.
DIGLOSSIA
Those situations that can have two different varieties of a language.
Low Diglossia: it's acquired locally used for everyday's affair.
High DIglossia: It's learned systematically (in schools) and it's used for important matters.
What is Standard Languafe?
It's found in books, newspapers, articles, etc.
STANDARD LANGUAGE refers to the variety of a specific language normally taught to those learning a foreign language. It's found in books, newspapers, articles, etc.
