- - - - Evolutionary: We find adults with baby faces (large eyes)more attractive as it is adaptive for humans to like a baby's appearance as we would be more motivated to care for them
        Prominent cheekbones are associated with sexually mature adults
        Symmetrical faces are an indicator of good health and reproductive fitness
        Familiarity: We prefer faces that resemble our own faces
    - - The halo effect: Cognitive bias in which the perception that an individual possesses one positive characteristic makes us more likely to believe that they also possess other (even unrelated) positive characteristics
        
        The what-is-beautiful-is-good stereotype: The belief that physically attractive people also have desirable characteristics
        
        The desirable characteristics depend on culture. Some universal desirable characteristics are socially skilled, friendly, and well-adjusted. US prefer personal strength and Koreans prefer honesty
        
        Self-fulfilling prophecy: People would interact with attractive people in a way that would eventually confirms their beliefs

      - Similarity suggests that we are right. This is comforting for us
      - When someone disagrees with us, we assume that they possess negative characteristics and we dislike them
- - - - No matter males or females, it depends on whether you are the one approaching or being approached. But since men are culturally the ones doing the approaching and females are the ones being approached, females tend to be more picky.

      - Comparison level: What you expect about the rewards and costs you are likely to receive in a particular relationship. Some people have a high comparison level (high expectations) and are more likely to be dissatisfied with their relationships
      - Comparison level for alternatives: People's expectations about the level of rewards and costs they would receive in an alternative relationship.
      - The investment model: People's commitment to a relationship also depends on how much they have invested in the relationship that would be lost by ending it
        
        Tangible investments (e.g. finances) and intangible investments (e.g. emotional investment)
    - - Exchange relationships: New acquaintances that are governed by strict measurements of who is contributing what
      - Communal relationships: Relationships in which people's primary concern is being responsive to the other person's needs, regardless of whether they get paid back
  - - - Destructive behaviours: Actively harming the relationship and passively allowing the relationship to deteriorate
        
        Destructive behaviours harm a relationship more than positive behaviours help it. If both engage in destructive behaviours, the relationship is more likely to end.
      - Constructive behaviours: Actively trying to improve the relationship and passively remaining loyal to the relationship
