ANIMAL TISSUES
NERVOUS TISSUES
Bipolar Neurons
- has two distinct structures extending from the cell body: an axon and a dendrite
Multipolar Neurons
- has the highest number of structures extending from the cell body: one axon and many dendrites
Unipolar Neurons
- only has one nerve process extending from the cell body: an axon that extends into dendrites.
- The basic unit of structure of nervous tissue is the neuron, consisting of a nerve cell body and several processes: dendrites, which carry impulses toward the nerve cell body, and axons, which carry impulses away from the cell body.
EPITHELIAL TISSUES
CELL SHAPE
Cuboidal
- cube-shaped with a single, central nucleus.
-
Squamous
- round, flat, and have a small, centrally located nucleus
- It cover the outside of organs and structures in the body and line the lumens of organs in a single layer or multiple layers of cells.
-
CONNECTIVE TISSUES
-
Blood
- a connective tissue that has a fluid matrix, called plasma, and no fibers.
-
Bone
- a connective tissue that has a large amount of two different types of matrix material
Adipose Tissue
- It is a fat storing connective tissue.
Cartilage
- the cells, called chondrocytes (mature cartilage cells), make the matrix and fibers of the tissue
- A group of tissues in the body that maintain the form of the body and its organs and provide cohesion and internal support
MUSCLE TISSUES
Smooth Muscle Tissue
- these muscles help in peristalsis which happens in tubular viscera.
Cardiac Muscle Tissue
- The fibers have some lateral branches, known as oblique bridges to form a contractile network.
-
-
-
-
- taller than they are wide, they resemble a stack of columns in an epithelial layer, and are most commonly found in a single-layer arrangement.
-

-
-
-
-
- each muscle fiber is an elongated cell surrounded externally by a delicate membrane, the sarcolemma.
-
-
-
- A specialized tissue found in animals which functions by contracting, thereby applying forces to different parts of the body.
