The Next Manufacturing Revolution Is Here: Robotics & the Global Supply Chain
Growth
Increases:
Grow increases about every 50-60 years.
This is always brought about by large manufacturing revolutions.
In order to grow, we need to be producing more.
This means that we need more labor, capital, or productivity.
Productivity is always the growth lever.
Decreases:
Grown had been declining for the past fifty years
This is scary because it means that our children do not get better lives.
It also means that there is less to go around, and this makes it more likely for people to fight.
Without growth, tension builds which creates serious problems.
Groth does not come automatically. Mature economies must seize it. This is down my retraining the work force.
The fourth Manufacturing Revolution
This is happening now, and it is shown that it will increase productivity by more than a third.
A few examples of this type of revolution can be seen in advanced robots, additive manufacturing, augmented reality, simulation, and much more.
This will come from the combination of existing manufacturing and technological innovation.
The new manufacturing revolution goes beyond just increasing productivity. It is also about creating better and smarter products.
It will make scale production easier, meaning we can get customized products for the same about as mass-produced products.
This will bring manufacturing back home which will create more productivity, growth, and employment.
This will change the model to be driven by domestic consumption.
If this is implemented correctly, manufacturing will become more productive and more flexible. It will also be easier for us to deal with because it will move out of factories and relocate in home markets. It will make a completely new model for how manufacturing is run. No longer will we have global trade flows. Instead, we will have regional trade flows. If it is successful, it will bring change for all of us and provide future generation to come.
We are on the verge of another huge change.
It will come from manufacturing.
It will radically change the way globalization has been done for the last decade.
This will be the fourth manufacturing revolution.
We have tried to increase manufacturing since the last major evolution, but it has failed.
We have made many tweaks to our manufacturing models, but they only help productivity for a short time.
Despite all of our innovation efforts with the internet, productivity is still declining.
