        Do you know whether/if there’s a good film on tonight?
      - IF is preferred when the noun clause is the object of the verb.
        Ex: I don’t know if I can do anything to help. ( more popular and informal)
      - WHETHER is used in other positions
        
        Talking about choices or alternatives
        Ex: It is debatable whether it’s necessary to tell her all about this.
        
        Noun clause as subject
        Ex: Whether we will pass this course remains to be seen.
        
        After BE (noun clause as subject complement)
        Ex: The question is whether we should risk everything again this time.
        
        After a preposition
        Ex: We need to discriminate between whether she really needs the money or is just being greedy.
        
        After a noun
        Ex: The question whether to wait another year will be discussed today.
        
        Before a to-Infinitive
        Ex: I can’t decide whether to go or not
        
        Immediately before OR NOT
        Ex: We have to decide whether or not we are going. ('or not': closer -> emphatic)

        the verb tense in the dependent noun clause

    - - AFTER: agree, ask, assume, believe, consider, feel, find, know, mean, point out, realize, say, see, show, suggest, suppose, suspect, think, understand, wonder
        Ex: We regret that you did not find our product satisfactory.
      - AFTER: advise, ask, assure, bet, convince, inform, notify, persuade, promise, reassure, remind, show, teach, tell, warn, write, admit, announce, complain, declare, explain, indicate, mention, point out, propose, recommend, remark, report, say, suggest
        Ex: We told the driver we were in a hurry.
