What went well
Other than my feet near the end of the night I was warm the entire time while being outside. Which surprised me considering I was mainly sitting there playing with the fire and bringing sticks into smaller sticks. It was nice to relax, but I thought I would be a lot colder. I'm happy I wasn't, it is also good to see what limits my clothing system can get to. If I was moving around I could've shed layers
I tried out these fire starters I made. I got to try out this foam pad I got from OGE for $20.
I forgot to ask for a pot, so I went to Walmart and got one that I really like. It's a Stanley too.
Every big item I brought I used, which is good to see there isn't gear I'm not using that's just taking up space
The only things I didn't use were items that I hope I don't have to use (first aid kit), but I had them with me just incase.
I set up the tent pretty quickly and right after got all my stove stuff and started making lunch. I feel like it was pretty efficient. I was also pretty efficient cleaning up camp as well.
Points for improvement
Something I should consider thinking about. I did try it out this trip but realized I could've done more. I put all my food for the trip in the pot I brought and when I got there I realized I could've put more in my food thermos. Just something to keep in mind to save all the space I can.
I did wing this trip a little, I didn't look up the exact location of Chazy Lake until the day before, because I knew it wasn't far. If it was a more major trip I would've liked to research those things beforehand so even mentally I can start thinking about a plan.
I have two major bags, a 44L and 70L. I knew I would have more then enough room with the 70L so I went with the 44L and I had trouble packing the foam pad. The straps on the outside weren't long enough to hold it to the bag. So I ended up just carrying it since it was a short hike. It would be good to possibly modify my bag to be able to strap that on there.
