Qualitative Research
Its results are mainly expressed in words
A large number of respondents is not required.
It can be analyzed by summarizing, categorizing and interpreting.
Open-ended questions are used.
Its purpose is the exploration of ideas and the formulation of a theory or hypothesis.
It works with a subjective purpose.
It focuses on understanding human behavior.
Quantitative Research
Its purpose is to test theories and hypotheses.
Mathematics and statistics are used to analyze the data collected.
The results are generally expressed in numbers and tables.
It focuses on discovering facts or social phenomena
Several people are involved at the time of conducting the surveys, or experiments.
Closed-ended (multiple-choice) questions are used.
It works for objective purposes.
Quantitative data collection methods
Surveys
List of closed or multiple choice questions. Online, personal, etc.
Experiments
Situation in which variables are controlled and manipulated to establish cause-and-effect relationships.
Obervations
Observing subjects in a natural environment where variables can’t be controlled.
