Muscular system
muscle types
Cardiac muscles - found in the heart, involuntary control, are striated
Smooth muscle - no striations. found in stomach, gastrointestinal track and blood vessels. Involuntary control.
-
-
Skeletal muscles
-
Contractibility: ability to contract, shorten and produce body movement
-
Muscle cell components
-
-
Sarcomere: contractile unit of muscle fibers, each myofibril consists of many sarcomere
-
Striated muscle
Dark stripes called A bands; light H band run across the midsection of each dark A band. Light stripes called i bands; dark z disk extends across the Center of each light i band.
Myofilaments
4 proteins make up myofilaments - myosin, actin, tropomyosin, and troponin.

You can name muscles by - Location, function, shape, direction of the fibre, number of heads or divisions, point of attachment and size of muscle.
-
Isotonic contraction - Tone or tension in a muscle remains the same as the length of the muscle changes
-
Actin - globular protein that forms two fibrous strands twisted around each other to form the bulk of the thin filaments
