Speciation and Summary of all Species Evolution
A group of organism that are able to interbreed and produce fertile off spring -
Species
Speciation
- The eveoluation of a new species
Isolation Barrier
Speciation occurs after part of a population becomes isolated -
Isolation barrier
Geographical isolation barrier e.g Rivers, deserts, oceans and Mountain ranges
Ecological Isolation barrier e.g diffferent breeding areas, different habatats, by Ph or salinity
Behavioural isolation barrier e.g courtship, displays and vocalisations
Mutations in Sub-populations
Natural selection selects for different mutations due to different slection pressures
Each sub-populatio evolves geneneticly different
Eventally become different specicies - they can nolonger create fertile offspring.
Summary
Speciation occurs after part of a population becomes isolated by an isolation barrier, which can be geographical, ecological or behavioural.
Different mutations occur in each sub-population.
Natural selection selects for different mutations in each group, due to different selection pressures.
Each sub-population evolves until they become so genetically different that they are two different species.
