King Henry VIII proclaimed himself as head of Church of England along with being king.

He was a strong believer in the devision right of kings; he wrote books defending the doctrine and lectured Parliament on it.
He became king of Scotland at the age of 1 year old when his mother Mary fled to England in 1567.
His plan was to limit Parliament's power and run England as he wished, but in order to do that the government had to grant him the taxes he needed. They didn't do that, so he started selling taxes for mobility for cash and rising customs duties.
James I's death led to conflicts in the Parliament and his younger son Charles I came to the throne. The son continued his father's view of how the power should be distributed, which flustered the Parliament and resulted in the English Civil War.

tried to exptand his religious control to Scotland, but the Calvinists there fought him
didn't want to include the parliament in the ruling; he started to collect taxes without their agreement and didn't call them in session afterwards
he asked for money from the Parliament after the Scottish Calvinists started a war with him
