Increasing Opportunity Access for Native Americans - Coggle Diagram
Increasing Opportunity Access for Native Americans
Why?
Increase economic opportunity for Native Americans
Preventing the vicious cycle of drugs/alcohol or crime for these communities
Breaking out of poverty and helping their families/community
Both will help reduce income inequality
Generate Role Models within the Indian American Community
Create a level playing field for Americans which would help reduce inequalities on scale
The end goal would be to have increased diversity which is critical in all aspects of life to provide additional perspective and attempt to eliminate bias.
So What?
Lack of representation of Native Americans in higher education has created a scenario where their perspective has been largely ignored.
Many resources exist but aren't utilized properly as connections between those creating the opportunities don't always have solid connections to Native American groups.
There are many people on the reservation who are struggling to justify having college people come and see students on the reservation.
Providing a meaningful connection between the two groups would have a resoundingly helpful effect for both ends of the issue.
Scholarships that exist are underutilized as many Native American groups have been isolated from American society.
A proper solution needs to address more than just providing opportunities/incentives but also justify why they should be used to the target audience.
