It is an economic and political association made up of 27 European countries (as of February 2020 with the departure of the United Kingdom), which have delegated part of their sovereignty to common institutions to democratically make decisions on matters of common interest.

The purpose of the Union is to promote peace, its values ​​and the well-being of its peoples. The values ​​of the Union are respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities.
