INHERITANCE_1
Definations
Chromosomes are strings of genes made up of Deoxyribonucleic acid.
Gene is a section of DNA that codes for a protein.
Allele is a alternative version of same gene
Inheritance is transfer of genetic information down the generation.
Genome is the entire set of genetic material in an organism
Chromatids are one half of the two similar copies of replicated chromosomes.
Centromere is the point at which two similar replicated copies of chromosomes attach.
Diploid is the number of chromosomes in a somatic cell's nucleus and is in pairs
Genotype is collection of alleles of an organism.
Phenotype is observable features of an organism
Dominant allele is an allele that is expressed in a genotype if present
Recessive allele is an allele which is expressed only if there is no dominant allele present
Inheritance of SEX
23 rd pair of chromosomes determine Sex of the offspring
male gamete have X Y
female gamete only have X
50/50 chance of both
If male gamete with Y fertilises an Egg then its a boy
If male gamete with X fertilise an Egg then its a girl
X is taller and Y is shorter
SIZE

Chromosome
GENE
DNA
Chromosomes are in
X shape only while they go under cell division
(One is replicated form)
There are
size variations
in the chromosomes because one comes from
male gamete and other from a female gamete
Genome
Centromere is the point at which both identical Chromatids join
Humans have 23 types of chromosomes with each type having 2 chromosomes .
