PAST SIMPLE AND PAST PERFECT SIMPLE
Past Perfect Simple
POSITIVE
S + had + verb (participle) or +ed
·Examples:
-They had eaten the snack.
-You had done your homework.
We use Past Perfect Simple when we want to show that something started and finished before something else in the past.
·Key Words: Previous week/month/year, Week/Month/Year before, Be/Are, etc.
NEGATIVE
S + hadn't + verb (participle) or +ed
·Examples:
-They hadn't eaten the snack.
-You hadn't done your homework.
INTERROGATIVE
(Wh) Had + S + verb (participle) or +ed + ?
·Examples:
-Had they eaten the snack?
-Had you done your homework?
Past Simple
POSITIVE
S + verb (simple) or + ed
·Examples:
-She acted in this film.
-He travelled to Barcelona.
We use the Past Simple to show the most recent action.
·Key Words: Last week/month/year, Yesterday, In 2018, Ago, By the time, etc.
NEGATIVE
S + didn't + verb (infinitive) or + ed
·Examples:
-She didn't act in this film.
-He didn't travel to Barcelona.
INTERROGATIVE
(Wh) Did + S + verb (infinitive) or + ed + ?
·Examples:
-Did she act in this film?
-Did he travel to Barcelona?
