Why had international peace collapsed by 1939
Long term consequences of peace treaties in 1919-23
stirred up conflict amongst different countries due to conflicting wants and not getting what they wanted (or in some cases, believing it was unfair)
hyperinflation? economic crisisssss
some countries were dissatisfied with what they received -- dissatisfied powers were more likely to attack for what they wanted
LON failure consequences
showed the world that larger countries could invade/show aggression and LON would not do anything -- made people lost faith in world peace
failed to stop Hitler and other strong powers like Japan from invading other countries (lack of resources to do so)
Was Hitler's foreign policy to blame for the war outbreak? (1939)
I think Germany invading Poland (which went against B + F's demands for halting the invasion) was what tipped off the war
(no) many other factors involved -- wasn't just Germany, other powers like Japan and Italy also wished to expand borders -- led to invasions
(yes) Because Hitler began rearmament to carry out his foreign policy, other countries also began rearmament as a result -- led to war faster?
Why did Britain + France declare war on Germany (September 1939)
War was inevitable since Germany repeatedly did not listen to demands and w2 (last tipping point was Germany's invasion of Poland)
Hitler's aims
To expand German Territory
"Lebensraum" (living space) needed for growing German population
making central Europe strongest in the world?
Defeat Communism
self explanatory
in conflict with Soviet Russia
To abolish TOV
constant reminder of their humiliation
resolve to make Germany great again
especially angry about military limitations
