Colourless and Odourless
Has a melting point of 0 and boiling point of 100 at RTP.
Good solvent for many substances
A weak electrolyte with very slight dissociation of water into ions.
Test for Water
With anhydrous copper (II) sulfate white to blue
With anhydrous cobalt (II) chloride blue to pink
Test for purity of water
Pure water has a sharp and fixed and constant boiling point and melting point
Contains dissolved oxygen for aquatic life, metal compounds, plastics, harmful microbes, nitrates, phosphates, some metal compounds.
Treatment of Water
Step 1: Screen
Step 2: Coagulate
Step 3: Flotation Tank
Step 4: Sedimentation and Filtration
Step 5: Add Carbon
Step 6: Add Chlorine
