Modern teaching methods and approaches
Many linguistic pedagogues and psychologists have seen the need to create a traditional way of teaching a language, thanks to their efforts to discover an easy way to reach students, we have some examples shown below.
Gramar Translation Method
As its name suggests, it focuses mainly on grammar and translation skills. It is a simple method; the resources are pronunciation, speech and commitment
DIRECT METHOD
The direct method developed by Maximilian Berlitz and Francoise Gouin in the 19th century represented this approach, it encourages direct connections between meanings or objects in the student's native language and English
Audio-lingual method
The audio-lingual method emerged during the Second World War, since the military needed knowledge of languages to communicate with allies and enemies. This method theorizes that language acquisition occurs through habit and repetition. With the speech as a focus, oral exercises and the imitation of set phrases, also the pronunciation.
Total physical response
This method uses commands and action performance. This technique recognizes that the understanding of English precedes the student's ability to communicate orally in the language.
There are also simple traditional methods available to the student that he can make use of throughout his personal study.
Dictation
It consists of the teacher speaking slowly while the students take note of what he says. This skill must be complemented with reading that allows interpreting the message of what is dictated.
Songs
The songs in English are very useful to learn new words and expressions, to improve speaking and listening skills, as well as in the motivational part of the student. For this reason, it is recommended to work during the development of the classes on methodological strategies that require this resource.
Games
Modern pedagogy recognizes more and more importance to playful techniques, educational games help create a positive environment in the classroom and provide reinforcement of grammatical and lexical structures, games reflect the character and interest of learners.
Written Exercises
The written exercises are of great value in the inter-learning process of the English language, since they serve to learn to write without misspelling and to practice the practical grammatical structures in each lesson, develop writing with good spelling and assimilate the new vocabulary with very little conscious effort.
