Present Perfect (I have done)
have/has + participle
format
I/we/they/you have (=I've etc.) + finished/lost/done/been etc
he/she/it has (=he's etc.) + finished/lost/done/been etc
Notes:
past participle verbs usually end in "ed"
The are certain verbs that are irregular (do/done, lose/lost, be/been, write/written)
Has a connection now i.e. action in past has a result now.
Examples
"Is Sally here?" "No, she's gone out." (she is out now)
Use to give new information or to announce a recent happening
The road is closed. There's been an accident
can be used with just/already/yet
Just = "Short time ago"
"Would you like to have lunch." "No, thanks. I've just had lunch."
Already = "something happened sooner than expected
"What time is Mark leaving." "He's already gone."
Yet = "Until now" and expecting to happen. (Only used in question or negative sentences)
Has it stopped raining yet? (Used in question)
I've written the letters but I haven't posted it yet (Used in negative sentences)
have gone (to) vs have been (to)
Jim is away on holiday. He has gone to Spain (=he is there now or he is on his way)
vs
Jane is back home from holiday now. She has been to Italy. (=she has now come back from Italy)
