In early childhood, the rapid increases in body size of the first two years tapers off. On average, children add 2 to 3 inches in height and about 5 pounds in weight each year. Between ages 2 to 6 years, the brain increases from 70 percent of its adult weight to 90 percent. At the same time preschoolers improve in the wide variety of skills, physical coordination, perception, attention, memory language, logical thinking and imagination.
