Rivers
A river is a current of water that flows from its source to its mouth into another river, lake or the sea.
Length
The length of a river is measured by identifying the mouth of the river, the precise place where it begins to be a tributary of another river, sea or ocean, and the scale of measurement being used.
Flow
Flow rate is the volume of water passing through a river cross section per unit of time, and is expressed in cubic meters per second.

Lagoons
A lagoon is a natural reservoir of water, usually fresh, smaller in depth than a lake. Those that are separated from the sea by a barrier are known as coastal lagoons and those that are connected to it are known as lagoons.
Length
Dimensions. Coral lagoon dimensions range from small atolls to those so wide that the coral reefs on the far side cannot be seen across the lagoon.
Flow
Seawater flows in at the surface to replace that lost by evaporation, creating a circulation the reverse of that found in estuaries.
Lakes
Lakes are relatively large bodies of water surrounded by land and separated from the sea or ocean.
