Word Knowledge:
The ability to recognize and determine meaning
Guided Reading:
A method to teach children how to read In small groups. There are three Important things to remember when doing a guided reading lesson: (1) Book selection and Instruction, (2) Reading practice, teacher observation and coaching, and (3) A teaching point and link
Writing is focused on letter-sound correspondence; majority of effort is directed towards spelling
Beginning to edit own writing and self-correct spelling errors in single-syllable short-vowel words and some high-frequency words
Key Components of a 5 day lesson plan
Day 3: Reading and retell practice
Day 4: Sentences to words
Day 2: rereading and print references
Day 5: Sentences to words, use word strips
Day 1: initial introduction of book and first read
Learners enter this stage with a rudimentary concept of word and progress through mastering the full concept of word by either midway through the stage or the end.
Sight Words
Words that students are expected to recognize on command, beginning learners recognize about ~25 sight words
Reads about 100-150 words by sight in the later phase of the stage
Language of Instruction:
Talking with, not to your students. Through this you should be having conversations with your students and specifying what Is Important to who your students are as Individuals.
Alphabet Knowledge:
The knowledge of all of the letter is the alphabet.
Phonemic Awareness:
The knowledge of each of the 44 sounds in the english language.
