The Parable Of The Narrow Door Part 1
calling for repentance
Jesus is the door
“I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved” (John 10:7–9)
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
the door is two fold
one - it is narrow
two - anyone may enter
the closed and locked doors
time for repentance is not endless
people should repent when the door is still open. Today, anyone may enter it.
narrow gate
a narrow gate means it'll not be easy to get through and you need to make effort.
another reason of difficulty: too much people are trying to get in at the same time
invitation to pass through the door
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.” (John 6:44)
no one ever made the first move towards God
we come to God only because God draws us
God does not show favoritism
so, there is no reason for you to not be a part of that 'number' of those who God draws to Jesus
the call of God is not restricted
not restricted by:
race
education
social position
wealth
achievements
good deeds
everyone could be included in that 'number'
enter by the door
not hard; no complicated course to follow
must be entered and there's no way getting around that
Jesus said he was a door, that can be entered easily and instantly
Truth in Christ - Faith
strive to enter
agōnizomai (greek)
mean to strive and make effort
there is something for us to do in the matter of salvation
we must try to make it a priority
"to fight to struggle”
humility
great humility is needed to accept the good news
Like entering into the door of humility at the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem
nativity
God comes for the outcast, dirty, and the broken
he does not come for the high and important
The Judgement
entrance into heaven is not our birthright
we must work for it
Jesus do not enjoy speaking of the judgement day
dread having to cast some people out
asking us to repent
bible verses Luke 13:22–30
22 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.
24 “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
25 Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’
26 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
28 “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.
29 People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.
23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”He said to them
27 “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
In that passage, the narrow door is contrasted with a broad one, and a broad and a narrow path are added to the basic image.
