Weather [:partly_sunny_rain:]
Weather refers to the day-to-day changes in the atmosphere. It differs from climate, which is the average atmospheric conditions found in a given area.
Anemometer.
This measures wind speed in miles per hour (mph)
Rain gauge
. This measures rainfall in millimetres (mm).
Weathervane
. This shows the wind direction.
Thermometer
. This measures temperature in degrees Celsius (°C) and/or degrees Fahrenheit (°F).
Barometer.
This measures air pressure in millibars (mb). High pressure means that air is falling. This usually leads to clear skies and dry weather. Low pressure means that air is rising. This usually leads to cloudy skies and rainfall.

Climate
:desert:
Climate is determined by several factors, including latitude, altitude, continentality, and ocean currents.
Arid
– dry climates
Mediterranean
– warm coastal regions
Mountain
– colder climates at high altitudes
Temperate
- not too hot or too cold
UK
Polar
– cold, dry climates
Tropical
– hot and usually wet

OS Map reading :world_map:
Always go 'along the corridor' then 'up the stairs'.

Contour lines
- The number written on the contour line shows the height above sea level in metres
Spot heights
. These show the exact height (in metres above sea level) of a certain point on a map and are written in small black numbers.
Population :information_desk_person::skin-tone-2:
Population is influenced by birth rates and death rates.
Population BBC Bitesize
Population is also affected by migration. Migration includes both
immigration
, when people move to a country, and
emigration
, when people move away from a country
Demographic Transition Model
Changes in population are usually closely linked to the development of a country
Settlement :cityscape:
Rivers :fishing_pole_and_fish:
Deposition
When material is dropped by the river.
Transporation
Suspension
Suspension – smaller material that is light enough to be continuously carried along.
Traction
Traction – large rocks are rolled along the riverbed at times of high energy, eg when the river level is high.
Solution
Solution – very small material that is dissolved and can be transported even during times of low energy.
Saltation
Saltation – the water picks up rocks and pebbles. They are too heavy to be carried far and so they appear to bounce along the riverbed.
Coasts :beach_with_umbrella:
Erosion
Hydraulic Action
the force of the river against the banks. Air becomes compressed within cracks and crevices, which weakens the banks.
attrition
rocks carried by the river collide. They break up into smaller, smoother pieces
abrasion
rocks carried by the river scrape along the bed and banks
Plate Tectonics
Boundaries
Destructive / Convergent
Forms mountains and steep volcanoes
eg South America - Andes
Transform
Plates scrape past each other
eg San Andreas Fault USA
Constructive/ Divergent
Plates move apart
shallow volcanoes
eg mid atlantic ridge
