It is when one thing happens; or doesn’t happen, then another thing will happen, or the contrary. You can see this as the first signs of manipulation by Chairman Mao.
      - “Look. This is called the Good Fortune Photo Studio. Doesn’t that mean to make a lot of money, just like Great Prosperity? Chairman Mao told us that was exploitation. Don’t you think this is fourolds?” Ji-yong asked enthusiastically.” Ji-yong is younger and therefore has had the brainwashing happen to him at a younger age. This means the effects of the brainwashing are most likely stronger. It’s like a person telling you that something is bad your entire life. You would probably believe that it was bad. He is attempting to bend everything he can to sound revisionist. He would definitely be a Red Guard if not for his class status.

Though there is no logical explanation for the scolding, it happened because of her class status.

The teachers’ assignments have been invalidated.”” Somehow, a system that was reckless and abusable got replaced by a system that is no longer abusable but still as reckless. Chairman Mao broke the dreams of many people to replace it with a system that most likely will make everyone perfectly average.
        
        “I knew that many of my favorite books, like the stories in Grandpa Hong’s bookstall, would be sorted away forever, declared poison under the new standards.” Chairman Mao was attempting to censor history from the younger generation, just as he tried to destroy the four olds. It’s quite surprising that he’s getting away with this and everyone’s just okay, but it’s probably because everyone’s been brainwashed to think anything should be sacrificed for the future.
        
        The Sound of Drums And Gongs

If you think that reactionary relics would actually do anything to the infrastructure of their strong hold of the people is dumb at all points of view. You are actively destroying expensive objects you could sell to improve the strength of your country AND actively achieving nothing. It’s just so stupid all around.
