05 Muscular System: Luna Ruiz P.1
Major functions- muscle sys.
Muscles allows a person to move,
eat, and chew
Muscles control heartbeat, breathing,&digestion
muscle types & functions
Skeletal Muscle- Tissue attached to bones and allows movement
Smooth Muscle- Exists in the urinary system & helps with digestion and nutrient collection
cardiac muscle- Responsible for the contractility of heart (pumping action)
SKELETAL MUSCLES
brachioradialis
flexor pollicis longus
flexor digitorum profundus
pronator quadratus
flexor digitorum superficialis
flexor carpi ulnaris
palmaris longus
flexor carpi radialis
pronator teres
anconeus
triceps brachii
brachialis anticus
biceps brachii
coracobrachialis
extensor indicis
extensor pollicis longus
extensor pollicis brevis
abductor pollicis longus
supinator
extensor carpi ulnaris
extensor digiti minimi
extensor digitorum
extensor carpi radialis brevis
extensor carpi radialis longus
Sacromere
A sarcomere is the basic contractile unit of a myocyte (muscle fibre)
Responsible for muscular contraction
Neuromuscular Juntion
The neuromuscular junction is a synaptic connection between the terminal end of a motor nerve and a muscle
Responsible for converting electrical impulses generated by the motor neuron into electrical activity in the muscle fibers
Sliding filament theory
Muscle fiber contracts when myosin filaments pull actin filaments closer together and thus shorten sarcomeres within a fiber
When all the sarcomeres in a muscle fiber shorten, the fiber contracts
Action Potential (muscle fiber)
Muscle contraction begins when the nervous system generates a signal. The signal, an impulse called an action potential
Muscle coverings (connective tissue)
The outermost connective tissue sheath surrounding the entire muscle is known as the epimysium. The connective tissue sheath covering each fasciculus is known as perimysium, and the innermost sheath surrounding individual muscle fibers is known as endomysium
Muscle Disorders
Muscular Dystrophy- gentetic
that damages the msucle fibers in 9 different forms
Fibromyalgia- pain and tenderness of muscles/joints/soft tissues
Myasthenia Gravis- Autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness
Cerebral Palsy- Injury or abnormality to the brain that results in disconnect between brain and muscles
Myositis- Inflamation of muscles
