Ok, so I understand that we are here to discuss possible interventions to help you feel better in general life. Is there anything you would like to add?
No, that’s about right. I want to try to get better. I want to be able to play with my grandbabies again.

Not really. We enjoy each other's company. I don’t know what I would do without her. She supports me every step of the way
Perfect. Would you like to do some of your interventions with her? There are lots of things you can do together if you are interested in that?

I can make something work that you and your wife can do together, but like you said she has her own hobbies so it can be good to have other options.
Of course, I understand what you mean.

Yes, I like little games like crossword puzzles and some chess. You know, things that give my brain some exercise.

Well, not really but I would like to keep my body and mind healthy
Well that is good to hear. How about we look at doing activities that will help your mind and body? Are you interested in meditation? It could be an easy activity that you and your wife could do together. I have lots of resources about meditation that I can send to you.

Ok, well that would be a good start. Give that a try, look at the resources with your wife and come back and see me in 2 weeks for us to revise.

Uhm, yeah we tried meditation every other day but I really didn’t enjoy it.
This is not a good decision. It is better to listen to the patient and try to find out if they will actually enjoy the activity. The path on the right saves two weeks of the patient's time.
Ok, well it's something to try. I will send you the resource, but let's look for something you are more interested in.

Oh, this could be exciting then. Online chess can be a very fun and great exercise for your mind. You could even challenge your wife or your kids anywhere in the world! You can play against other chess players who are of equal skill to you. If you want I can send you the website.

Hopefully that works out for you but let's also find something else that can keep your body in shape. Do you like swimming at all? It can be a low-intensity full-body exercise. You and your wife could do it and you could even play games. I have resources I can send you about swimming classes and free swims.

That is perfectly ok. It is always an option to think about. You could try walking your dog, maybe throwing a ball every day just to keep getting you outside.

Hi again, things went well. I tried chess out and it was really fun. It is much harder than playing with my kids and nephews but I will kick their butts next time we play for sure.

Yes I did. I think I am ready for more. I also spoke to my wife and she was interested in the swimming programs. She says some of her friends go to them actually.
Oh! Are you interested in swimming then? I could have the resources sent over again if they got lost. There is a lot going on there.

Perfect. I think you should try swimming with your wife, keep up the chess and play with your dog. It's good for both of you haha. I will schedule us again for 3 weeks from now just to check in then we will go from there. How does that sound?

It is important to have interventions to not rely on a spouse if possible as the persons autonomy is still important
