SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY
ASSUMPTIONS
-
SLT suggested learning occurs directly through conditioning or indirectly by vicarious reinforcement
-
KEY CONCEPTS
-
IDENTIFICATION: people are more likely to immitate people they identify as role models, they can have the same characteristics, be attractive or high status
MODELLING: when a person is influential , they are a model and if a person imitates the behaviour, they are modelling. term only used for behaviour after its modelled
VICARIOUS REINFORCEMENT: reinforcement the observer sees the model recieving. a positive reward means the behaviour is more likely to get immitated,
MEDIATIONAL PROCESSES: focusses on how cognitive factors are involved in learning and these mental factors mediate (intervene)in learning processes to determine whether a new response is aquired. we do not automatically observe the behaviour and imitate it, there has to be prior thinking - known as mediational processes
