Limited Government; Representitive Government;
It guaranteed the rights of Englishmen to the colonists and gave colonists the opportunity to elect officials to represent them when making decisions
Declaration of Independence
Written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776
Consent of the Governed; Limited Government; Rule of Law
Stated thier complaints against the King, declared the colonies independence from Great Britian, affiremed certain unalianable rights, and that all people are created equal under the law. Also echoed that goverments are created to protect the rights and liberites of the people.

Authored by George Mason in 1776
Served as a model for the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the United States; Stated that people had inherant rights NOT given by the government (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, some first ammendment freedoms)

Established a weak form of national government for the new states; creates a weak central government and maintained that major powers be given to individual states
