The history of the black angel.
How others perceive the statue
from the website
According to the website this is how some see the statues color as "Ther are also a few stories that blame the black color on infedelity"
in here lies linc this was how others perceived it
when linc, delaney, beez, and melleker went to the statue they were scared about getting cursed from the black angel and had delaney kiss the angel.
"Go ahead, beez." He swept his hand up at the angel. Climb up and kiss her, No way Beez said bruquesly."
What actually happened
The websites explanation.
from the website its basically that theresa had moved to iowa after her hometown burnt down and she becme a midwife, after a few years her sun had died and her husband a bit after that as well where she made a statue for them she wanted to put a tree stump on the statue but the sculptor didn't put it on correctly, she remarried and her other husband also died after all of that happened she stopped talking to other people and stayed isolated until near her death she made a quote upon it ro share how she felt about her life.
Here lies linc's explanation
in the here lies linc book basically what was the truth of the black angel was that teresa was someone hwo had a lot of bad luck through out her life, losing her son, having to leave her village because of a fire and losing both of her husbands. there was no curse just that the epitaph wasn't written correctly and they didn't write her death date.
what had been theorized about the color of the black angel.
From the website on the actual history of the statue
according to the website "The strictly scientific explanation is that the blackness is caused by oxidization of the bronze resultingfrom its natural exposur to the elements."
In here lies linc, the statue is said to only have changed because of the type of metal used to make the statue after being oxidized for so long.
The book says "The only reason that angel is black is because the statue is made of bronze, not marble, and when bronze is exposed to the elements, oxidation occurs and the metal turns dark."
Differences in Here lies linc and the actual history.
From the actual history
What it actually said was "The sun and clouds stood above my journey
There were tough and joyful days in my life.
You did my work just to make the world better.
You fold your hands and head goes down.
Your spirit flies away where ever lasting reward is waiting for you after hardship.
From the website the actual quote is different than what is told in here lies linc
From here lies linc
In the book what Theresa had wanted written on the statue was different
In the book the quote said "For me, the clouds concealed the sun. The path was thorny. The days of my life passed without comfort. I always accomplished my work for the good of the world. I fold my arms and bow my head, but my spirit flies away into the distance. Suffering is over. An eternal reward awaits you."
According to here lies linc the legend was "He always told me about the three university students who had pulled a midnight prank and chopped off some of the angels bronze fingers. It didn't take long for each of them to be struck down by some kind of horrible accident. The first lost his hand working at a sawmill that summer. The next one fell over with a stroke on his twenty first birthday and woke up with a paralyzed arm. The last student thought he was home free until he happened to nick his hand with his pocket knife on graduation day. His tiny cut became infected and slowly got worse
Something that was different was the legend of what would happen after you touched the statue.
According to the website one of the legends was "according to the website on what people thought "one version is that theresa veldevert was a very mysterious woman, and her evil caused the statue to turn black, which would srve as a reminder of the sins of the family. "
