Nervous system
structure of neuron

Myelin sheath: Sheath made up of myelin which acts as electrical insulator preventing electrical impulses entering nearby cells
End plates: chemical substances diffuse (synapses) down the other nerve cell or muscle or glands exiting the endplates in process
-
Axon is also know as filament/Nerve fiber and a nerve can carry impulse in both direction ( have motor and sensory)
Terms:
-
-
Synapse: space between two neurons through which chemical susbtances diffuse across to trigger a electrical impulse.
-
The synapse
-
Neurotransmitters are generated as result of electrical impulse, which diffuses out of the presynaptic membrane down the concentration gradients towards the receptors present on the post synaptic membrane triggering another electrical impulse in other neuron cell .these neurotransmitters are then recycled or destroyed so no confusion between the neurons occurs and prevent double way flow of impulses
-
-
Reflex arc: A automated response with brain not being the coordinator which is rapid and helps in minimizing or preventing the damge caused.
-
Role: To provide a pathway of coordination between organism and their environment
- Which helps in preventing damage to the organism.
- Coordinate and regulate our body functions
