Power and patriarchal structures are challenged and explored in "Nothern Lights" by Philip Pullman through the characters of Lyra and Mrs Cutler.
Lyra and Mrs Cutler both conform and contradict the power and patriarchal structures in Northern lights by Phillip Pullman.

Northern lights is situated in a very male dominanted enviroment, example, only men allowed in the retirement room in Jordan college. At jordan college the men are very intelligent and academically focussed

Lyra goes agaisnt the stereotype tht women need to be saed, she npt only saves herself, but others
Lyra is always testing boundires (eg exploring Jordan althogh told not to) which is not tyical of female roles
