World War I was a new kind of war due to the technologies developed and used.

Both sides of the war paid a massive price, and the price was death. Germany and Russia being the ones that paid the most.
Due to the amount of suffering resulting from the great war, many western society were impacted by it as well. The sense of disillusionment came over the survivors.
Although soon the peace treaty was created, and one of the reasons why it was created was to give everyone a sense of safety.

Governments Wage Total war
As WW1 changed and became the total war, countries devoted all their resources to the war effort.
the wartime government took control of the economy. Governments told factories what to produce and how much.
facilities were converted to munitions factories.
Women also saw the horrors of war firsthand, working on or near the front lines as nurses and relief workers.
Nearly every able-bodied civilian was put to work. Unemployment in many European countries all but disappeared.
many goods were in short supply that governments turned to rationing.
people could buy only small amounts of those items that were also needed for the war effort. Eventually, rationing covered a wide range of goods, from butter to shoe leather.
American nurse Shirley Millard describes her experience with a soldier who had lost both eyes and feet.
How did Total War lead to rationing?
Supplies such as gasoline, butter, sugar and canned milk were rationed because they needed to be diverted to the war effort. War also disrupted trade, limiting the availability of some goods.
Germany, Austria, Russia, and France, the entire force of government was dedicated to winning the conflict.
Governments also suppressed antiwar activity, sometimes forcibly.
Many leaders feared that honest reporting of the war would turn people against it.
They also used propaganda to keep up morale and support for the war.
most women left the work force when the war ended, they changed many people’s views of what women were capable of doing.

Each country became more occupied in it's own discorses then with the war. Rather then trying to continue the war without the help of the Germans while dealing with their problems. The Central powers decided it would be easier to end the war.
